Mab.ko (France, 1993) is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Porto. With a degree in architecture from France, she has developed a practice that blends drawing, painting, and sculpture, rooted in an exploration of composition, scale, and the construction of her own visual vocabulary.
Drawing plays a structuring role in her process, serving as the foundation for the development of forms, patterns, and symbols that unfold across different media. From these two-dimensional matrices, she creates series of three-dimensional objects, ranging from small ceramic pieces to larger-scale sculptures, as well as sets of paintings and illustrations.
Her practice seeks to develop an iconography rooted in the ordinary, exploring the invisible forms of the landscape and layers of memory. Through her work with materials and their plasticity, she investigates the transformation of common fragments, removing them from their original context and assigning them new meanings. Her works thus propose a transition between states—from the functional to the symbolic—integrating these elements into a sensitive visual language, where mystery and suggestion play a central role.
She has been presenting her work in exhibitions and artist residencies in Portugal and abroad. In 2025, she was awarded the Afinidades Prize for Contemporary Ceramics, organized by the Soares dos Reis National Museum. From the same year, we highlight the solo exhibition Caractère at the Quinta de Santiago Museum (Leça da Palmeira) and the group exhibition BICO at the Appleton Gallery in Lisbon
