Maria Luz (Lisbon, 1999) is a Portuguese visual artist who works primarily in the fields of painting and analog photography. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon and also studied for a period at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana as part of the Erasmus program.

Her practice centers on the observation of urban daily life, exploring themes such as loneliness and the construction of memory. Her work consistently begins with an analog photograph, not as an image to be faithfully represented, but as a starting point to explore atmosphere and color. Through light and chromatic relationships, she seeks to reveal poetic dimensions in abandoned objects and places, creating images marked by a nostalgic atmosphere.

She has exhibited regularly since 2017, having participated in various exhibitions in Portugal. In 2022, she was awarded the Millennium BCP / Carpe Diem Young Art Prize.
