João Freitas (Porto, 1997) is an artist who holds a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP). He has led workshops on dry and mineral charcoal, as well as oil painting, at the Soares dos Reis Art School.
His work stems from a personal investigation into the behavior of color on different surfaces and materials, exploring its communicative potential, both in relation to the surface and in the dialogue between colors. Collage emerges as a central element of his process, often through the physical deconstruction of previous works, where tearing the paper gives way to new forms and compositions.
The result manifests itself in variations of the same exercise, maintaining a focus on the search for balance between forms and the construction of chromatic harmonies, where color assumes a structuring and discursive role.
João Freitas showcased the solo exhibition UNTIL HEAVEN COMES at Apaixonarte in 2022.
